Vending machines for art

Ever walked past a vending machine with no plans to buy anything, only to walk away with a Coke and a snack?

That’s the point.

They’re designed to create impulse buying (or offer a no-contact shopping fix for our introverted brothers and sisters).

Maurice Ajanaku noticed that the Rosewood hotel in Amsterdam took that same idea and made it boujee.

Nestled under a staircase, their vending machine doesn’t sell snacks, but marble sculptures by Dutch artist Casper Braat.

I think The Rosewood might be onto something here.

A vending machine already taps into impulse; now pair that with limited-edition, exclusive local sculptures, and you’ve got something people will stop for.
